This Week In Media 3/12/13

First good week in a while. There's some good old timers with new albums, there's a Jim Carrey and Steve Carell movie, and a new God of War. Lot's to get to, so let's do it.

New In Theaters

The Incredible Burt Wonderstone

Good chance I see this movie in the theater. I have about as high hopes ask could have for a magician movie. A Jim Carrey and Steve Carrell vehicle simply has to be funny. I've tried not to watch any trailers because I'm already sold on it why ruin any of the movie.

The Call

Seen a lot of ads for this flick. I think they're really worried about making their money back... and they should be. Halle Berry is a 9-1-1 dispatcher that needs to solve a kidnapping on her own?  No cops? Plus how many crap "horror" flicks do they need to have bomb before they either stop or actually try to make a good one? I can't imagine any horror movies have made any money in recent history outside of the 'Paranormal' and 'Saw' movies. So why yet another turd? You can't even use the money grab excuse here.

New Albums

Bon Jovi - What About Now (Video above is the full album)

David Bowie - The Next Day

Eric Clapton - Old Sock

I haven't personally listened to any of these albums just yet, but I have heard good things about the new Bowie album. One of the musicians Carolla had on the podcast recently was saying it sounded great so that should be worth checking out. Eric Clapton is talented enough to merit a listen even for a guy well past his prime. Regardless of his age he is a ball of talent, it will be interesting to see how well he can still play. Finally Bon Jovi. I have no beef with him. I think he made a few good tunes mostly ones that are beyond fucked out though. I don't think there's a Jovi tune that I need to hear again and I'm assuming this album will wreak of the same ole Jovi.

New Video Games

God of War: Ascension

I loved the first two and eventually with play the third and this one, but I'm in no big video game rush. These games are great, if you liked the last few you'll love this one as well. A lot of video games have just turned into repetition, I'm sure this will be no exception, but I'm also sure it will be fun.

Since I Have Last Written

EA Sports is on quite a roll as of late. Madden sucked again, NCAA Football 13 was NCAA 12 with a different cover, NHL took a step back (more on this to come), and early word is they didn't even try in the new baseball game. Now this Sim City debacle. Just bugs galore not allowing you to play I guess. Reminds me of the original Sim City which I remember trying to play once for five minutes, took the cartridge out of my Gameboy and threw it at the wall. We didn't need a new version of a game that barely works to begin with. So yes I want to say EA sucks ass but I also want to say if you bought the new Sim City you my friend are an idiot.

I haven't seen Wreck-It-Ralph just yet so I'm unsure of the real competition this film had, but it didn't feel like an Oscar Winner. The first three quarters of it felt sort of hollow. The main attraction is the main broads hair. The special effects are outrageous, namely her hair. It looks real. But right when I was ready to call this a bust it sucked me back in. 6/10.

End of Watch

This is a true cop bromance movie. With some great acting and a fun story line to follow I really enjoyed it. The only part of the movie that took me out of it was how it seemed like every call they got was a huge deal. I get it they're cops in a dangerous neighborhood but every call of every day? 7.5/10

Safety Not Guaranteed

Now on Netflix Instant, a pretty solid movie, one definitely worth checking out. Only problem I had with it was the love story just felt a bit forced. 7/10
